Rex Wakefield is an approximately 52 acre Medical Office and Retail Development that was a joint venture between Rex Hospital and a Raleigh development entity; principals of Chartwell Property Group led the formation of the joint venture and development of the project. The JV was on approximately 38 acres with Rex owning 100% of the remaining 14 acres for the  construction of a future hospital. The Project is highlighted by a 105,000 sf ambulatory surgery center, a 42,000 sf Rex Wellness Center, and a Harris Teeter anchored 70,000 sf retail development.  Rex Wakefield was a transformative project that offered the first suburban mixed-use medical park of its kind in the Triangle and will continue to be a regional center of influence as Rex plans to construct a hospital on land currently used as a surface parking lot for the medical office building.  The medical office building was designed to connect to and integrate with the future hospital.

Rex Wakefield MOB is uniquely positioned in that the first floor of the MOB houses a specialty ambulatory care center featuring diagnostic imaging, laboratory support, heart and vascular diagnostics, 4 ambulatory surgery suites, radiology oncology, linear accelerator, medical oncology, and an urgent care center. Rex Wellness Center offers traditional gym components with the addition of medical and professionally supervised health and fitness programs such as health education, physical therapy, rehabilitation from heart disease and stroke, nutrition specialists, etc. The retail project is a Class A project offering a 70,000 sf retail project that includes a grocery store as well a mix of shop tenants that drive synergistic traffic to the site while providing amenities for patients and their caregivers.

Since developing the Rex Wakefield project, Chartwell has developed Rex’s Garner campus including Rex’s surgical clinic, heart and vascular, cancer and oncology, a sleep lab and a fixed MRI that is part of the Rex/Wake Radiology JV.
